Antimatter does not permit third-party advertising in any areas of our Services that require authentication, and Antimatter does not sell, lease, or otherwise trade for value any personal information of teacher or student users.

For any questions regarding this Privacy Policy, please contact [email protected].

Information we obtain from third parties

Integrated technologies, such as Google Login

Third-Party Login Information. When you link, connect, or log into the Service with an account from a social networking service (such as Google Login), we will receive personal information about you such as your name and email address as permitted by your profile settings on the third-party service in order to authenticate you. The information we receive when you authenticate through a third-party service depends on the settings, permissions and privacy policy controlled by that third-party service. You should always check the privacy settings and notices in the relevant third-party services to understand what data may be disclosed to us or shared with us.

Automatic data collection

‍We and our service providers may automatically log information about you, your computer or mobile device, and your interactions over time with our Services, our communications, and other online services, such as:

  • Device data, such as your computer’s or mobile device’s operating system type and version, manufacturer and model, browser type, screen resolution, device type (e.g., phone, tablet), IP address, unique identifiers, language settings, mobile device carrier, radio/network information (e.g., WiFi, LTE, 4G), and general location information such as city, state or geographic area. We do not collect your exact geolocation.
  • Activity data, such as pages or screens you viewed, how long you spent on a page or screen, navigation paths between pages or screens, information about your activity on a page or screen, access times, duration of access, and whether you have opened our emails or clicked links within them.

We use the following tools for automatic data collection:

  • Cookies, which are text files that websites store on a visitor’s device to identify the visitor’s browser or to store information or settings in the browser for the purpose of helping the visitor navigate between pages efficiently, remembering preferences, enabling functionality, and helping us understand user activity and patterns. For example, we use Mixpanel’s analytics services to help us better understand how people engage with our Service by collecting information and creating reports about usage. You can adjust your web browser’s settings to refuse cookies. We may also permit third-party advertising partners to collect information from visitors to areas of the Services that do not require authentication; however, we do not permit third-party advertising partners to collect information about authenticated users on our Service for the purpose of serving targeted advertising and we do not use student data for targeted advertising.
  • Web beacons, also known as pixel tags or clear GIFs, which are used to demonstrate that a webpage or email was accessed or opened, or that certain content was viewed or clicked.

How we use your personal information

We do not rent, sell, or exchange your personal information to any third party.

To provide, operate, maintain and secure our Services.

To communicate with you, including to respond to your requests, provide support, and otherwise communicate with you about our Services, including by sending announcements, updates, security alerts, and support and administrative messages.

To improve, monitor, and personalize the Service, including by understanding your needs and interests, and personalizing your experience with the Service and our communications.

Research and development

We may use your personal information for research and development purposes, including to analyze and improve our Services. As part of these activities, we first turn personal information into de-identified data by removing information that makes the data personally identifiable to you. Then, we use this de-identified data for research and development purposes. The goal of research and development is to improve our Services. We may further aggregate the de-identified information. We may use de-identified data and share it with third parties for our lawful business purposes.

For compliance and protection
  • Comply with applicable laws, lawful requests, and legal process, such as to respond to subpoenas or requests from government authorities.
  • Protect our, your or others’ rights, privacy, safety, or property (including by making and defending legal claims).
  • Audit our internal processes for compliance with legal and contractual requirements and internal policies.
  • Enforce the terms and conditions that govern our Services.
  • Prevent, identify, investigate and deter fraudulent, harmful, unauthorized, unethical or illegal activity, including cyberattacks and identity theft.
Community Development

Antimatter celebrates creations made in classrooms with our community. On a daily basis we choose to feature creations made by teachers and students on our Discover page, email newsletters, and on social media. This often includes attribution to the student or teacher, including their featured creations as well as their avatar and username.

Students and teachers have a publicly accessible profile where their avatars, username, and featured creations on Antimatter are publicly visible. Any personal information in your avatar, username or creations on Antimatter will also be publicly available as part of your publicly accessible profile. However, we will never expose any personal information not included in the featured creations (like your name or email address) without your consent. Students and teachers can opt out of public profiles at any time by visiting their profile settings.

How we disclose your personal information

We do not rent, sell, or exchange your personal information to any third party. We share personal information in limited cases, as further described below:

Data that you ask us to share

For users who belong to the same educational institution, we share personal information that you ask us to share, with other authorized users of the Services. For example, teachers can view their own students’ completed assignments and conversations through Sorcerer.

Service providers

We disclose information with third-party providers if it is necessary to provide you with our Services (such as cloud hosting, database management, and email delivery).

Government authorities

We may disclose your personal information to law enforcement, government authorities, or private parties in order to comply with the law or a valid legal request.

Business transfers

In the event of an acquisition, merger, or reorganization or sale of assets, or in the event of bankruptcy or dissolution, we may transfer personal information to the new owner. In such a case, we will make reasonable efforts to require the recipient to honor this Privacy Policy. If the recipient changes this Privacy Policy, they will provide the user an opportunity to opt in to the recipient’s privacy policy.

Your choices

Access, update, or delete your account information

You may access or update your personal information in your account by logging in and editing your information or by emailing [email protected]. You can request that we delete your account by emailing us at [email protected]. We may retain de-identified data after you delete your account, in order to improve the operation of our Services; these data will not contain your personal information. We may also retain your personal information for compliance with legal obligations, to defend legal claims, or as required under our agreements with schools to whom we provide Services.

Opt out of emails

You may opt out of product update emails by following the opt-out or unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of the email. You may continue to receive Service-related emails.

Online tracking opt out

There are a number of ways to limit online tracking, which we have summarized below. Please note that these tools are not associated with Antimatter and we cannot guarantee that they work as their providers advertise them:

Blocking cookies in your browser
  • Most browsers let you remove or reject cookies. To do this, follow the instructions in your browser settings. Many browsers accept cookies by default until you change your settings. For more information about cookies, including how to see what cookies have been set on your device and how to manage and delete them, visit All About Cookies.
  • Using privacy plug-ins or browsers. You can block our services from setting cookies by using a browser with privacy features, like Brave, or installing browser plugins like Privacy Badger, DuckDuckGo, Ghostery or uBlock Origin, and configuring them to block third party cookies/trackers.

Note that because these opt-out mechanisms are specific to the device or browser on which they are exercised, you will need to opt out on every browser and device that you use.

Do Not Track

Some Internet browsers may be configured to send “Do Not Track” signals to the online services that you visit. We currently do not respond to “Do Not Track” or similar signals. To find out more about “Do Not Track,” please visit All About Do Not Track.

Additional resources

Data retention

We retain your information to deliver our Service, but we do not retain it longer than necessary to support the authorized educational/school purposes, or as authorized by the user.

You can deactivate your account by going to your account settings. When you deactivate an account, you will not be able to access it, there will be no further activity in your account, and other users will no longer see any information connected to your account. For students and teachers, this means your school will no longer be able to access information connected to your account. You may restore the account by contacting [email protected].

When you deactivate your account, we turn personal information into anonymous data by removing information that makes the data personally identifiable to you. We retain this de-identified data to improve our product. You may contact us if you would like your data to be permanently deleted.

In the case of school contracts, the school may request that we deactivate and de-identify accounts, and we will do so, unless there is a regulatory or valid legal need to retain certain information.

Security

Protecting your privacy and security is important to us. Our security practices are informed by the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. We use strict user access controls, multi-factor authentication, and a combination of technical and procedural safeguards designed to protect your data. We secure data in transit and at rest using encryption. We have an incident response plan in place and a break notification protocol. Despite these risk mitigation strategies, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and we cannot guarantee “perfect security.” Any information you transmit to us you do at your own risk.

Please note that any information you send to us electronically, while using the Services or otherwise interacting with us, may not be secure when it is transmitted to us. We recommend that you do not use unsecure channels to communicate sensitive or confidential information to us.

Children under 13

In accordance with COPPA, we require parental consent for students under the age of 13 (“Child User”). A Child User may use Antimatter only in one of two cases:

  • Parental consent. A parent or guardian may provide consent for the Child User to use Antimatter by completing a Parental Consent Form. After Antimatter has received the signed Form, the parent may create an account for the Child User.
  • School Consent. If the school has all legally required consents in lieu of the parent or guardian consent, then the Child User’s teacher may invite the Child User to create an account.

If we learn that we have collected personal information through the Services from a Child User without the consent of the parent or guardian, as required by law, we will delete it.

Depending on your location and the nature of your interactions with our Services, you may have the right to submit requests about your personal information:

  • Right to know/access. You may have the right to know/confirm and/or access/receive in a portable format information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, as well as the categories of sources from which such information is collected, the purpose for collecting such information, and the categories of third parties to whom we disclose such information. You also have the right to know if we have sold or disclosed your personal information.
  • Right to delete. You have the right to request the deletion of your personal information that we no longer need to provide the services or for other lawful purposes.
  • Right to correction. You have the right to request that we correct inaccuracies in the personal data that we process.
  • Right to opt out. You have the right to opt out of any “sales” or “sharing” of your personal information or the use of your personal information for “targeted advertising,” as those terms are defined under applicable state law. Note that while Antimatter does not monetize the personal information of any user of the Services by providing it to a third party in exchange for money (except in the context of a potential sale of the company), some states have a broader definition of the terms “sell” and “share” which includes making user information available to a third party for the purposes of targeted advertising. As described above, Antimatter may permit third-party advertising partners to collect information from visitors to areas of the Services that do not require authentication. These visitors can direct us to stop allowing the sharing of their information in this way by opting out of cookies through our cookie preference center, accessible within the footer of our website at antimatter.systems. Antimatter does not use student data for targeted advertising.
  • Right to not be discriminated against. You have the right to be free from discrimination for exercising these rights. Please note that if the exercise of these rights limits our ability to process personal information we may no longer be able to provide you with our products and services.

If you would like to exercise any of these rights, please submit an email request to [email protected] with the subject line, “State Law Rights Request”, and indicate your state of residence. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request, which may require additional personal information from you, or that you log into your Antimatter account.

In certain circumstances, we may decline or limit the scope of our compliance with your request, particularly where we are unable to verify your identity or locate your information, or as permitted by law, such as where fulfilling your request would impair the rights of others, our ability to provide a service you have requested, or our ability to comply with our legal obligations and enforce our legal rights. Depending on where you reside, you may also have the right to appeal our decision to decline or limit the scope of our compliance with your request by further contacting us at [email protected] and explaining the nature of your appeal.

Depending on where you reside, you may also be able to use an authorized agent to act on your behalf to submit requests to exercise your rights. If you are submitting a request through an authorized agent, the authorized agent must provide us with your signed written permission stating that the agent is authorized to make the request on your behalf. We may also request that any authorized agents verify their identity and may reach out to you directly to confirm that you have provided the agent with your permission to submit the request on your behalf.

Other Sites and Services

Our Service may contain links to websites and other online services operated by third parties. In addition, our content may be integrated into web pages or other online services that are not associated with us. These links and integrations are not an endorsement of, or representation that we are affiliated with, any third party. We do not control websites or online services operated by third parties, and we are not responsible for their actions. This Privacy Policy does not apply to such third-party sites or services.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may modify this Privacy Policy from time to time, in which case we will provide prominent notice to the users and account holders and provide choices before data is used in any manner inconsistent with the original terms. We will not make changes to policies that are inconsistent with our contractual requirements.
